Okay, so I got my mitts on one of the vaunted Typhoons and I must say, after all the fuss, I'm a bit disappointed. It's a good-looking
model for the price -- sorta. Matchbox planes have a better fit/finish in my opinion for less dough. And now Corgi's Typhoons are out,
which makes this one harder to put up with. The over-the-top panel lines, wobbly gear, and rough edges keep IXO's great choice of
livery and loadout down. (After the initial release sold out in 2005, IXO is now set to re-release this bird in the U.S. in 2007, which
won't do much to please folks that shelled out high after-market prices for the original.) LUKEWARM.
She does cut a mean profile. But the gear is unstable and looks too long.
IXO Models Jr., 1:72
# IXJ-002 Hawker Typhoon Mk. 1b
The panel lines are inked black and
are much, much too heavy.
The gear can barely hold the
model up, the model tends to list
-- even if glue is used.
I do like IXO's choice of livery, and the paint job is striking.
Glue is needed to hold the rockets firmly -- okay, to hold them on at all, really.
