I tell you, the Gemini P-51Bs and the new Galland 109 may be getting all the
limelight but the Spits are the stars of the show. The quality and detail of the mold
simply has to be seen in person to understand just how much nicer these are than
any other 1:72 Spit out there. Really.
Just like with the
JJ Spit, the fit and finish on this clipped wing model are
spectacular! The paint scheme is beautiful and nicely applied, there are no visible
gaps, seams, or screws (just the hole in the belly to attach it to the display stand),
and the overall level of detail in the mold is simply superb. The metal rudder and
ailerons move easily and fit snugly, not an easy task--ask Dragon! The heft factor
on the model is impressive, it is almost entirely metal. And the fit of the gear, tail
wheel, and display stand is perfect! The wings look less stubby than with other
clipped wing models I've seen, too -- such as Dragon's.
There is some debate about the accuracy of the camo scheme -- that the green
may be "too green" and the grey, too dark. I don't know for sure, and I don't really
care because it looks so darn good!
The antenna is still too pointed, and the pilot looks too big, but this is still an
outstanding model.
These are minor quibbles to me and I have no trouble saying run, don't walk, to
pick up this bird before it's gone. Corgi's got some real Spitfire competition on its
hands now.
                  Highly Recommended!
