This model is a testament to just how weak I am when it comes to peer pressure and scuttlebutt about how "cool" a new model is. I was not going to get
this Japanese exclusive market release, as I thought $90 was just a silly price to pay (albeit delivered from Japan) for a 1:72 Tomcat. However, with the
prices on regular releases climbing, and the after-market popularity of this livery, and all the chatter on The Model Hangar about how nice a model this
is, got me to pull the trigger. While the all-black scheme does not blow me away, it does have a "cool" factor going for it and it adds some nice contrast
to a modern display, too.
From a QA perspective, it's another CW gem -- excellent fit/finish overall, though I did have some trouble getting the Phoenix pallets to fit flush,
which is a common issue with CW F-14s. I am surprised it was not issued with a numbered certificate card, however -- at this price it should have been.
If you really like CW models, and the Tomcat, I do feel safe saying this is a must-have. If you're not a hardcore CW collector and the all-black look
leaves you flat, you should pass.
