This very easy-on-the-eyes Texan dropped into DiecastAce Field for a visit and photo shoot, courtesy of Model Hanger pal Black6.
The livery for this particularly model is striking, which makes this bird stand out on the shelf. The paint, as usual, is very well applied
and the fit/finish are quite good -- next to no "fiddly bits" with this model. The silver finish is also very well done. Two canopy
configurations are supplied for open/closed display. The closed version is a bit off as the front canopy frame is a tad too tall, and the
sliding canopy frame tends to keep on a sliding all the way to the rear of the canopy.
This model also features a pretty heavy black wash that really highlights the panel lines, particularly on the silver paint areas, which I
think looks okay. I would prefer a more subtle wash, but I think it's better as it is than with no wash at all.
The model doesn't come with much in the way of extras, which are usually a hallmark of HM releases but this is a pretty simple
aircraft trainer. There is no external ordnance, no pilot figures, and no moving parts (other than the prop). It assembled easily with no
issues to report. (Note: it does come with gear up parts and an in-flight display stand, not shown.)
Overall, I think this is the nicest Texan HM has released. It's just a really simple, great-looking scheme.
