Century Wings burst onto the 1:72 diecast scene
in 2006 with what is generally regarded as the finest,
most accurate rendition of the beloved F-14 Tomcat
you will find in 1:72 -- or any other diecast scale, for
that matter. It churned out a few Jolly Rogers
schemes before moving on to others and, eventually,
several other molds -- including the A-6, A-7, and A-
8. All of these are firsts in 1:72! The company has
also come out with some 1:144 Tomcats, and has
plans to expand in that scale, too. Diorama sets are
also in the works.
CW models feature attractive packaging -- many
included numbered cards -- lots of included loadout
options, and pilot figures. The models have a lot of
metal content, and the molds are highly detailed. As
you might expect, CW models are at the current top
end of the market for price, but so far the ones I own
prove the saying "you get what you pay for".
Here's a glimpse of what you get:
- Diecast metal construction with some plastic
components.
- Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels
and surface details.
- Pad printed markings and placards that won't
fade or peel like decals.
- Selected moveable control surfaces.
- Presentation stand to display the aircraft "in
flight".
- Authentic detachable ordnance loads complete
with placards.
- Accurately detailed underside with concealed
screwheads.
This bullet list is taken from The Flying Mule's site --
The Mule is the U.S. distributor for the CW line.
The line does share its roots with the FOV
Tomcat mold, so you will see similarities between the
FOV and CW F-14s.
If you see one you like, particularly any limited
editions, jump on them -- many sell out fast and
command high after-market prices!
