Minichamps 1:35 Panther Tank, Initial Release, R01, Normandy
This is the first model Minichamps released in its line of 1:35 scale military vehicles. And while I'm not a major "treadhead", I do dabble with
collecting tanks. I snapped this one up the day it was released (1999?) for what I thought was a very scary $70 price tag at the time. When it
arrived I thought it worth every penny -- and am even happier now as this model has surged a bit in after-market value. I've seen it go for as much
as $500 on ebay.
It does look factory showroom fresh, and even the steel treads are sliver, which seems to bother some. I choose to marvel at the heft of the
model, the working suspension, and just the overall superb fit/finish and detail (though I have really no idea just how "accurate" it is, I admit).
My particular model seems to have issues keeping its barrel up -- insert any viagra joke you wish here.
Not sure I'd spend several hundred on this model now, but it does make a great centerpiece to a diecast armor display.
I woudl think the spare tread parts would be the same color as the actual treads, but I'm not sure what they should be.
