The Gaincorp "World Aircraft Collection"
is a relative "new kid on the block" in the
world of diecast. (The line was formerly
sold under the Giodi "Warbird Collection"
brand.) And I, for one, and very excited
about these models-primarily because no
one else is doing them.
Gaincorp's claim to fame is its series of
Russian jets, which are all variants of the
Sukhoi Su-27, Su-33, and Su-34. I have
four of these, and each one is simply stellar
and looks awesome next to Dragon's
Western counterparts, such as the F-15,
F-16, F-18, and F-14.
Gaincorp also makes an F-22, F-15 (which I
also own), and an F-18 is expected soon as
well. Personally, I don't find any of these
nearly as impressive as the Russian birds,
probably because no one else makes the
Sukhois in 1:72!
However, the metal quotient isn't nearly as
high as you'll find in Dragon's line, and all
Gaincorp models come without pilots and
with fixed landing gear and hardpoints.
They do have moving control surfaces,
access panels, and even folding wings on
the Russian naval variants.
Some of the early models have some
inaccuracies, such as dual nose wheels on
the Su-27s, but only the most discerning
collectors will notice--or care once they see
the beautiful paint jobs and detail that this
line features.
